New Age courses at Ashirvad, the Jesuit centre in Bangalore

I visited Ashirvad the Jesuit centre on St. Mark’s Road, Bangalore, on August 18, 2017.

When I had last visited here in October 2002 to deliver a two-day seminar on the New Age threat in the Indian Church to the third ICPE (International Catholic Programme for Evangelization) School, I had attended Holy Mass in their chapel and had seen priest’s vestments with the “OM” symbol on them!

On the present visit, I came upon large flyers announcing various New Age programmes at Ashirvad.

The Jesuits are so spiritually bankrupt that they do not care what their centre promotes as long as the money for the use of their facilities comes in.

Today, I contacted all of the promoters of the workshops/courses whose flyers are reproduced below; one of them (Cicily Thomas of the Vital Force Tai Chi Academy) has never even used Ashirvad but her posters are up because she has connections with the Jesuit priests, she says!

Cicily Thomas is a certified Taichi Quan Master trained by Grand Master Fu Sheng Yuan, and Master Fu Quin Quan, part of the 5th and 6th generation of Yang family. She has been teaching Taichi Quan and Qigong since 1998.

Cicily has learned Qi Gong with several Masters including the renowned Kung Fu, Chin Na, Taichi quan, Qigong Master, and a leading authority on Qigong, Dr. Yang Jwing Ming with whom she has trained and continues to undergo several workshops.

In her pursuit of learning the various disciplines that focus on health and wellbeing, she has also experienced techniques like Vipassana, Yoga and Mindfulness meditations.  She is trained in healing arts like Bio-dynamic Cranio-sacral Therapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Gestalt Therapy and Counselling.

In 1998, she founded “La Force Vitale” which means “The Vital Force” and signifies the meaning of “Chi“, “Life Force” or Prana, which is dedicated to promoting and spreading Qi Gong and Tai Chi – the Taoist Harmony Yoga.

Taijiquan is a Martial Qigong, an internal style of martial arts that was created in the Daoist monastery of the Wudang Mountain, Hubei Province. Taijiquan is based on the philosophies of Yin-Yang. Taiji means Grand Ultimate or Tao or Force or God or mind or the Way of Nature. “Taiji It is generated from Wuji or Nothingness or stillness and is the Mother of Yin and Yang. In movement it divides. At rest it reunites.”

From this, we derive that Taiji is neither Wuji nor Yin and Yang. It is the pivotal force or energy which makes the Wuji state divide into the Yin and Yang polarities, and also causes the Yin-Yang to reunite to the state of Wuji. Yin and Yang, two polarities, originate from Wuji through Taiji’s action or function. From these two polarities, again through Taiji’s action, four phases are derived. With the same theory, the variations continue until there are unlimited changes in the universe.

From this, you can see that all life and all things are produced from the mutual interaction of Yin and Yang through the mediating function of Taiji. Therefore, if you are interested in learning Taijiquan, you must understand Yin and Yang, and their relationship with Taiji. Without knowing the theory and the Dao, your Taijiquan practice will be limited to the external forms and movements. In this case, you will have lost the real meaning of practicing Taijiquan

The underlying belief of this soft form of martial art is that everything in the universe depends on the interplay and interaction of two vital energies, ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’. In Chinese philosophy, everything in the universe including the human body is made up of opposing forces of the yin and yang.

There are two Soham Yoga posters at the Ashirvad gate

The promoter of Soham yoga is a Catholic, John. But the above pictures at his web site show yoga classes taking place under the Hindu “OM” symbol and a Hindu deity.

The next 1-day yoga-meditation workshop at Ashirvad is on October 8, cost: Rs 2000 + yoga manual and DVD. John, an M. Sc. in Yogic Science possesses a Yoga Teachers Training Certificate in Sivananda Yoga taken from the Sivananda Ashram in the Himalayas, and a diploma in naturopathy.

Their next programme at Ashirvad maybe at the end of October. According to Yogesh Patil yg_patil07@yahoo.co.in, our organs are vibrating at a certain frequency. He and his wife Priti conduct “healing” therapy using different pipes for different frequencies after a “7-chakras balancing”, and the “healing energy” is channelized to the defective organ to “heal” it.

They also use what they call “Sound Meditation” for “healing”.

The fee for the 3-hour workshop is Rs. 1000. The charge for follow-up private treatment is Rs 3000 per session. Website under construction.

The Archdiocese of Bangalore under Archbishop Bernard Moras is, along with the Archdiocese of Bombay under Cardinal Oswald Gracias, leads the Church in institutionalized New Age.

The late Fr. Ronnie Prabhu, former Jesuit Provincial, is a classic example of religious syncretism.

Over a decade ago, I had reported that the Brothers of the Holy Cross on St. Mark’s Road had a huge banner advertising for Yoga classes.

While preparing for this report, I received an email from a concerned parent with a child in a lower class that Yoga is compulsory for children in Sophia High School, Palace Road, Bangalore, from Class V and she sought my advice on what to do.

I received another email that reports that the Jesuit-run Indian Social Institute (ISI) in Benson Town offers Yoga. He adds, “Paalana Bhavana just behind Bishop’s House also conducts Yoga classes, so also Good Shepherd’s Girls School for the children. The Principal proudly proclaimed this as an achievement in the yearly address.” Paalana Bhavana is the Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre!

The writer continues, “St Anthony Friary, Franciscans, carry out Yoga training. Last Sunday after Mass I got hold of the priest who announced this. He also invited all other religion people to participate in the Mass. I questioned him about how he’ll distinguish between a Catholic& non Catholic at Communion. He had no answer.”

St. Anthony’s Friary is on Hosur Road.

In late 2000, I had reported in a handwritten letter to Archbishop Ignatius Pinto the incidence of a major New Age offensive by an international group on Catholic institutions in Bangalore.

The Archbishop called me up on the night of the day that he received my letter and assured me that he intended to personal visit the heads of the institutions (like Crist College, St. Joseph’s College) to ensure that the New Age group was kept out and that the Church did not participate.

On the other hand, the present Archbishop of Bangalore Bernard Moras simply sits back and ignores all correspondence* on the subject while New Age takes over his parishes and religious institutions.

I am certain that if I spend more time in Bangalore, I would have much, much more to report.

What amazes me is that all of these Catholic new age centres are frequented by the top echelons of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal — who do… absolutely nothing about it.

This ministry gets a bad name from them for writing and exposing these things which endanger the souls of Catholics.
