The Hinduisation of the Catholic Church in pictures

The above picture is sourced from the New Indian Express, May 13, 2013. The storyline:

Women extending a traditional welcome to Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio, Apostolic Nuncio to India from Vatican, during the foundation stone laying ceremony for the new St. Michael’s Cathedral in Coimbatore.

The Nuncio is flanked by the Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore and the Bishop of Coimbatore.

By viewing separately the foreground portion of the photograph one would never guess that it was taken at a Catholic church function. The kalasams [earthen pots] and coconuts smeared with sandalwood paste and red kumkum powder are decidedly Hindu, not Indian. It is claimed by the New Indian Express reporter that this is a “traditional” welcome, but in a land that is known for its diverse cultures, the above depicted ceremony is conducted exclusively by Hindus in South India, not by the other minority group, the Muslims.

Why is it that anything that is claimed to be “Indian” or “traditional” is invariably of the HINDU religion?

The picture below, captioned “Traditional welcome“, is taken from The Mylapore Times, February 2-8, 2013.

The photograph was taken at a function that was held after Holy Mass at St. Bede’s School ground, San Thome to welcome the new Archbishop of the Madras-Mylapore diocese, Most Rev. George Antonysamy and to say thank you to the outgoing Archbishop Rev. Dr. A.M. Chinnappa.

The following picture is of a Bharatanatyam dance performance at the same programme.

There is almost no parish celebration in the dioceses of Tamil Nadu without Bharatanatyam.

Bharatanatyam dance is indisputably a Hindu temple dance.

The photograph of the young girl [on the previous page] performing Bharatanatyam was taken by a Jesuit brother from the Sathya Nilayam philosophate at the air-conditioned auditorium of the National Shrine [Cathedral Basilica] of St. Thomas, Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore on March 13, 2013. She is a Sunday School student and the occasion was the closing of the annual school at which I am one of the teachers.
