Subject: News snippet in Deccan Herald

Dear Michael, Thanks for your mail on Enneagrams. From a friend, I heard about the retreat at Divine Centre…

He will address a gathering of 3000 people on the day and follow it up with a special session for around 1,000 pranic healers from across the country, on August 16. MY LETTER TO THE ARCHBISHOP OF BANGALORE:

PRANIC HEALING AT CHRIST COLLEGE, BANGALORE

To, His Grace, Most Rev. Bernard Moras,

ARCHBISHOP OF BANGALORE

Your Grace,

Pranic healing founder Grand Master Choa Kok Sui is scheduled to have a session at Christ College on August 15th, 2006. Pranic Healing is an esoteric alternative therapy, coming under New Age alternative medicines and so-called ‘Holistic Health’. The Vatican Document “Jesus Christ, the Bearer of the Water of Life, A Christian Reflection on the New Age”, 3rd February 2003, explains its basic concept, of the belief in and manipulation of “cosmic energy” in one’s “etheric body”, as New Age.

The Meditation on Twin Hearts ceremony which will be used there is a serious “initiation”, using this occult energy to allegedly link two “chakras”, the “Heart” and the “Crown”, and inducting the participants into the next “level” of pranic healing. The philosophies of Pranic healing are incompatible with Biblical revelation. So are all Mr. Sui’s spiritual teachings, which I have analysed in my various researched articles. I would dare to say that some of them are very dangerous and most condemnable. Out of the hundreds of pages that I have written after extensively researching every book written by Mr. Sui on Pranic healing, I have attached just five here, along with this letter. I request you to please spare your valuable time to read the attachment, and beg you to intervene to prevent the Catholics of your archdiocese from being exposed to this occult session.

PS. I had written to your predecessor Archbishop Ignatius Pinto regarding a New Age programme which was to be held on Catholic campuses in Bangalore. The Archbishop had telephoned me immediately after contacting the institutions to stop the programme.

My article on Pranic Healing was published in two Catholic periodicals: SHALOM TIDINGS, Kerala, July 2000, and STREAMS OF LIVING WATER, Calcutta, Dec. 2004-Jan. 2005.

With just three days to go for the programme, a similar letter was drafted and emailed by this ministry to all addresses on the mailing list, asking concerned Catholics to warn others by circulating this ministry’s alert:

‘IMPORTANT. URGENT. PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW…’ Here are some of the responses:

Dear Michael, Just to say i got your message. i do hope you again phoned the Archbishop at Bangalore. Unfortunately the Syrian church does not come under the Latin bishop. How are you keeping, you really took trouble to come all the way to say hello and meet me that day. I am doing okay, have not met Lalith Perera yet. He was at Muringoor with a group of 700 youth from Sri Lanka. he may have also conducted a retreat there. Keep me in prayer. Father XXXXX

Dear Michael, It is sad to note that Christians, and Catholics at that, will make available their premises, much worse attend, and the worst, practice these kinds of things like Pranic Healing.

I know that in the North it is quite prevalent among the Dispensaries run by our good sisters.

BUT IN ALL THIS, I BLAME THE CATHOLIC AUTHORITIES. THE NAME, ‘NEW AGE,’ GIVEN TO AN ERROR IS EXTREMELY AMBIGUOUS. WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THUNDERED FROM THE ROOFTOPS IS WRITTEN IN SOME PAPER LIKE THE ‘L’OSSERVATO ROMANO.’ HOW MANY PEOPLE EVEN KNOW OF THESE PAPERS?

WHY IS IT NOT READ OUT AS ENCYCLICALS, REGULARLY, FROM THE CHURCH PULPITS?

United in prayers and love Father XXXXX

Dear Mr. Michael,
Thanks for your email which is a good opening to know more about the facts in detail of Pranic Healing.
Could I ask you if there is any means of knowing the names of Pranic Healers in different places? The idea behind it is that in Goa there is a Healer and many people go to him. When asked some say that he is doing Pranic healing and some say it is Reiki healing and still worse some do not know what exactly he is doing but they say that he is healing.
Please throw some light on this as I want to circulate the facts to many in Goa who are rushing to him.
Thanks, With Regards, XXXXX

My dear XXXXX,

It is very encouraging to hear from you.

It is not possible to post the two articles of mine that were published in the magazines. For one thing, they are different from each other, and secondly, they would occupy too much space in the KC forum. Is best to visit this ministry’s website where the second article is available. If you want more information by hardcopy, I can send you, free of cost by post. Please write to michaelprabhu@vsnl.net with your postal address if you live in India.

I do not, as a rule, reveal the names of those who practise New Age therapies etc. in our exposés
unless we have first contacted them and they reject the knowledge of the truth.

Many of those in the Pranic Healing Foundation of India, even the Trustees, are Catholics, some Mangaloreans, some Goans, even priests and nuns are the ‘Head’ Trustees, as in Kerala [Sr. Eliza Kuppozhackel, Kottayam]. In Chennai they are Clifford & Sushma Saldanha and the Orthodox Catholic Joseph family of the MRF Foundation!! In Secunderabad, the leading healers are a Catholic organization headed by priests; they even promote Pranic Healing through their magazine ‘Health Action’. In Goa, it is one Patrick [surname unknown to me], and several Goan friends have objected to his activities and taken up the issue with the Deanery, and possibly the Archbishop of Goa, as per correspondence with me from about two years ago.

I have written to the Archbishop of Bangalore too, in this present issue.

God Bless You for taking up the fight against error and evil. Every single action counts.

Love, Michael Prabhu

Dear Prabhu,

Thanks for the information on Pranic Healing session to be held at Christ College.  What a place and what a day chosen for the occult practice. Its like our non-believing (Christian) Britisher colleagues here with me having Good Friday Burns

(barbeque and sun burns on the beach) on Good Friday.  Difference is now we have believing clergy within the church doing things not compatible with the faith.  You say those who can do something.  What can be done?  Best would be to mobilise like minded people to distribute pamphlets in Bangalore, during Sunday Mass and other gatherings?

If once such a programme can be stopped with mass mobilisation of local gatherings, it might just give awaken the shepherds and give them more guts to speak out. What is the Bishop doing, or has he himself registered to give the introductory talk? Sorry to be saying that, but i find it very difficult to digest such happenings from within.  I really admire your relentless and the patient effort for so many years. Won’t a direct mail to the Vatican help?  Just my thoughts, sitting here i can do no more, except write lengthy mails. Wish you luck in stopping this happening. In Christ

Dear XXXXXX,

I think people could write to the Archbishop. As I already did the day I wrote to you.

When Good Shepherd Convent in Madras had an International Pranic Healing convention some years ago, my wife and I and two friends distributed pamphlets on the grounds and the Mother Superior herself had to evict us the third time.

I not only write, I act.

The Vatican is not concerned about such things. Once they replied to me to write to our Bishops as it is a local matter.

Doubtful the Bishops can do anything as the College probably belongs to a congregation.

Thanks to Konkani Catholics for publicising my letter. Love, Michael

Dear XXXXX,

Greetings. Let me first introduce myself. I am Fr. Prem Antony, IMS. I read your message from the JOYnet. Thanks. But i do have a concern. I have attended a pranic healing session myself. And I feel it is unjust to condemn it as coming from the devil, etc stuff. Our body which is created by our God has within it powers that are given by God Himself. To tap those powers for good reasons is not anything bad or condemnable. I am not one to support New Age Spiritualism, but kindly do not associate everything with New Age Spiritualism as well. Someone can then club the Charismatic Movement with it as well! Of course, it is coming from Buddhist backgrounds, but that does not make it ipso facto unacceptable. All that the Christians practise is not necessarily good because it is practised by Christians and in the same way, everything that the others practise is not necessarily bad because it practised by “non”- Christians.

Let us be slow to condemn. Let us pray first for ourselves that we may have a greater sense of charity that alone will make us different in this world that is given to rash judgements and religious frenzy. As I often say, what Jesus wants are not religious NUTS but spiritual FRUITS.

Am staying at Pitampura in Delhi. Hope to read your reply or hear from you. My phone no is 9968149229. I will be glad if you publish this through our JOYnet. With prayers and love, Prem.

Dear Michael,
It is indeed a pleasant surprise to hear from you. Good to know that you are doing well in your Ministry.
Thank you for your mail. I shall send it to those few I know in Bangalore.
When my son was hospitalised after a serious accident, a couple of well meaning friends offered to practice PH. Fortunately, we had the pleasure of your interaction earlier, and we diplomatically avoided it.
The fact that my son, XXXXX, is alive today is a miracle. If not for our earlier knowledge, we would have accepted anything at that point. WE are also thankful to HIM for that grace. I have a colleague who practices PH. I keep off on this subject. May you be blessed in your work and persevere in spite of all the hardships you face. Love. XXXXX

Most Rev. & Dear ABP. Bernard,

Peace of Christ!  I have just arrived in Bangalore & this programme is scheduled for TODAY!! I write in my personal capacity & share in the concerns of Prabhu & only ask – if the Vatican has given clear guidelines on the dangers of these forms of Healing, how can we propagate the same. The greatest Healer – JESUS, who can heal us in body, mind & spirit is being sidelined. Are we not denying Christ??? How often have we said “Say but the WORD & WE WILL BE HEALED. IT is high time that Priests, Religious Sisters & Lay people are discouraged from types of Healing that do not acknowledge God as the Source of Holiness, Healing & EVERY GOOD THING.

I trust that you as our Pastor will do the needful & stop this with the courage & boldness which comes from the power of the Spirit of God. With all good wishes. I remain, Yours in Jesus Christ,

Most Rev. & Dear Archbishop Bernard

Peace of Christ!  Greetings on the Feast of the Assumption of Our Blessed Mother & on this Anniversary Day of Independence of Our Country!

I have just arrived in Bangalore & am writing to you in my personal capacity – with this programme at Christ College just hours away!! Apart from sharing Michael Prabhu’s concern & abiding by the Guidance given by the Vatican on issues such as “Pranic Healing”, “Reiki”, etc., I strongly feel that by going in for these forms of Healing – it is an OUTRIGHT denial of JESUS as HEALER. These forms of Healing may seem harmless & effective initially but have serious repercussions for apart from tapping oneself as the source of POWER, other powers are invited to dwell in us. I feel that our Priests, Religious Sisters & Lay people must  rather  exercise their Faith in  JESUS  – esp. in the Eucharist as we  “Say but the WORD  &  I  WILL  BE  HEALED.

We have had 2 Major Healings in the family…. XXXXX….. I will share this with you some time if given the opportunity to do so. Apart from this we now of tremendous healing that comes from reconciliation & forgiveness. Also the elimination of sin through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Ps.32: 2-5 & Ps. 38.  Mt.9:1f, Lk.13: 10f

There are numerous testimonies of this sort that will animate the Faith of people & bring TOTAL Healing when we go to the RIGHT SOURCE. (Ex.15: 26 diseases), Jer.30: 12, 13 & 17 (Healing of deep inner wounds-in the memory & emotions).

Not discrediting medicine or dishonouring the Physician as the Lord has given to us for Healing. Sirach ch.38:1f

Trusting that you as our Pastor will do the needful in the courage & power of the Spirit of God. May God bless us & may our Blessed Mother Mary intercede for us to be filled with Wisdom –  esp. on these occasions  & for situations when  our choices bring dishonour to the Father, Her  SON – Jesus & the  the Holy Spirit!!

With warm wishes, I remain, Yours in Jesus Christ SENIOR LEADER IN CHARISMATIC MINISTRY

Dear XXXXX, God Bless You. You have showed yourself to be a very brave and righteous person. There are too few left like you, but as long as there are, there is hope for the Renewal & the Church. We can only do our part, expose error and evil, and speak up. HE will do the rest as long as we can do our bit. Yes, in future they will think twice. Or thrice… We sincerely hope. I wrote to Fr. Jose, the principal of Christ College too.

I wonder why no Bangaloreans reacted to the prior knowledge of such a programme. Why did I all the way from Chennai have to warn Bangalore? I came to know, and act, only because of the alertness of an ordinary layperson from your city. Not any of the Charismatic renewal leaders who remain passive. That is why the dire need for a ministry like mine, and the crying need to educate our prayer groups. What Charisindia and the Renewal is doing is very insufficient.

I have always maintained that the CCR is the major bastion against New Age expansionism in the Church, but it is not proactive in the least. In fact, senior leaders in the CCR itself are directly or indirectly associated with New Age…

Ever grateful, Michael

Shocking to hear this. I’m amazed at whats happening. Should we compare it to “the great Abomination which prophet Daniel spoke about. This is again mentioned in one of the books of Esdras found in the Good news Bible-Catholic version. We will have to stop it as a personal gathering, as an agitation, if things are not going to change. Let our voice be heard in the streets. There needs to be physical presence of people who have the spirit to protect our faith in truth, wherever these heretic gatherings are happening. We need a strategy and an operation. Please respond to what can be done.

NOTE:

This ministry wrote to the Archbishop and to Fr. Jose Chennatt CMI., Principal, Christ College, Bangalore. No response.

The encouraging responses include a ‘testimony’ that the awareness of the true nature of Pranic Healing created by this ministry helped one family to have recourse only to Jesus [and conventional medicine] in a moment of crisis.

The responses also include two letters from a Rowena Mathias, evidently a Catholic by background, but who is now in New Age, and IMS priest Fr. Prem Antony, apparently serving Jesus Youth, who confesses to having attended training in Pranic Healing, and insists that it is not a New Age therapy. Two email letters to Fr. Prem Antony have not elicited a response.
