Who is Vassula?

Vassula Ryden, whose parents are Greek Orthodox, was born in January 18, 1942 in Heliopolis, a suburb of Cairo, Egypt. At the age of ten, she received a call from “Christ” while sleeping.

Again, at the age of eleven, she saw in her dream her spiritual marriage with “Jesus”. It was the “Virgin Mother” who assisted her in the said wedding, as well as Mary Magdalene. Vassula admits that it did not change her life then.

In November 1966 (Vassula was 24), she married a young Lutheran student at a Greek Orthodox Church at Lausanne, Switzerland and bore her first son, Jan, in 1971. The second one named Fabian was born in 1976. But after 14 years, they divorced in Sweden and later on she married at the civil registry a Swedish Lutheran named Per Ryden, almost 8 months later (November 1981). Her life was described as worldly. She was a painter, a model and a tennis player.

Towards the end of November 1985, Vassula allegedly received a message from a “guardian angel” while writing a shopping list. In an interview done by Father Rene Laurentin, Vassula said:

“I felt in my body a kind of supernatural vibration that was flowing through my hands. I had been writing a shopping list, but my hand began to shake and the pencil was too strong for me to control. It was my guardian angel. He began to write spiritual messages.”

Father Laurentin asked “How did you know it was your guardian angel?”

She answered, “Because using my own hand, he wrote, “I am your guardian angel.” His name is Daniel and he helped me make a sketch which represents him.”

Again, Father Laurentin asked, “But then, when you write, it is [sic] your own muscles that are acting?”

Vassula replied, “Yes, but even if I resist, it doesn’t stop. It’s the same with Jesus. Once I started to doubt and I said to myself, ‘It is impossible that things like this are happening to me.’ I want to put down the pencil, but Jesus, as if to encourage me, took control of the pencil more fully. He wrote even faster, as if to tell me not to have doubts.”

The said first message was received in Bangladesh and after three months, “Jesus Christ” took the place of the angel Daniel. Aside from the alleged Christ and the angel, she claims that she receives messages also from The Virgin Mary, Saint Michael the Archangel, St. Padre Pio, etc.

On October 31, 1991, she regularized her union in the Greek Orthodox Church, and celebrated her religious message in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Under the title True Life In God, the messages are compiled and distributed worldwide. It has been translated into 40 languages. The number of messages are still counting as Vassula claims the she will until the day of her death.

Her Life Is Not The Question, But…

October 31, 1991 was nearly 6 six years after the first message was given. So, with the length of time that passed, it is expected that Vassula’s life has been changed extremely. But what happened after 6 years? It is clear that she married her second husband. That is equal to committing adultery.

First, how can we know if a person commits adultery?

These are what the Bible says:

Mark 10: 11-12: He said to them: Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.

Luke 16: 18: Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery and the one who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

Romans 7: 2: Thus a married woman is bound by law to her living husband; but if her husband dies, she is released from the law in respect to her husband. (There are still more)

The following is from The Catechism of the Catholic Church

2336 Jesus came to restore creation to the purity of its origins. In the Sermon on the Mount, he interprets God’s plan strictly: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” What God has joined together, let not man put asunder.

And the Sixth Commandment clearly states “You shall not commit adultery”.

Violating the sixth commandment is A MORTAL SIN.

Vassula remarried while her husband is still alive. She had been excommunicated by the Also, she continually receives communion at a Catholic church in Rome while in a state of mortal sin (i.e., being divorced, and remarried while husband is still alive).

A mortal sin, with repentance, is forgiven.

Did she ask to be admitted back (since she still considers herself Greek Orthodox)? But she hasn’t.

So the main question is, why did she choose to marry her second husband though she believes that she receives messages from God? So how can the messages bear fruits if the receiver, Vassula Ryden, doesn’t seem to show the effects of the messages on her life?

In a response later, she said that her remarriage is prior to her conversion.

We cannot cover a mistake with another mistake.
